Magical Mistakes with Fiona Trinket
There is a word in Japanese that I can relate to within so many aspects of my life. Ichi-go ichi-e and this translates to “One time, one meeting”. Definition: an encounter that only happens once in a lifetime, reminding to treasure every moment, for it will never recur. In my passion for children’s writing, this is very true. Imagination can occur once in a lifetime. That is why it is so important to grasp it, to build on it, and to inspire within that moment. So many of us have that creative imagination dwindle out or die as we age and it, at least to me, is sad.
You could capture so many things in a moment that it really does only take one time to be. Within a meeting, whether it be a person or an idea, you can create so many possibilities. A character can be that one meeting when you open and read a book. That one character can reach into a person’s soul and bring out a side of them they thought they never had or had forgotten. It is within those moments magic can happen.
I am a firm believer in mistakes. Mistakes create. We learn and grown and make so many more things out of a mistake than we ever could with remaining stagnant. I could never imagine staying stuck in one place or state of mind anymore. I have been there, but children and adults should not have to. This will give them a world where they are happy and feel safe to make mistakes, create, imagine and be themselves. Where they are able to create their own magic by placing risks in their creative worlds. Never stop believing in yourself. Never stop thinking new thoughts or trying new things. It can only get you somewhere else. For better or for worse, you are growing, changing and inspiring new magic.
